{Learning Management Systems}

Throughout my years in education, I have used several different Learning Management Systems (LMS). Below is a list of the ones I have used extensively for at least 1 semester with a brief description.

schoology
I have gone back and forth with Schoology a couple of times over the past couple of years. I really like that it is user friendly. I also appreciate being able to organize content in folders and having the option to add-on my OneDrive and Google Drive accounts. The greatest downfall with Schoology, in my opinion, is grading assessments. Overall, it is probably one of my favorite LMS. Site: http://www.schoology.com

ITS Learning is the most recent LMS that I have reviewed and implemented. My school system has chosen this platform as the default platform. What appeals most to me about ITS Learning is that my students are already enrolled and they can use the same password they use for all other school sites. I am still learning about this platform but so far, my students have been able to navigate and upload assignments rather easily. Site: http://www.itslearning.com

I have used Coursesites by Blackboard most frequently primarily because it is very user-friendly and it familiarizes my students with a platform they are more than likely to encounter during post-secondary study. The site is free for students but you are only allowed to have 5 active accounts at one time. The best thing about Courseites is the ability to start a VoiceThread. This is great for World Language Teachers who have to do oral assessments. Site: http://www.coursesites.comĀ

I was first drawn to Moodle because I was able to upload it to my own server and had more control on the backside (for the most part). I did not find the interface to be user-friendly and at the time, it was a bit dated and not very attractive. I was unable to organize my course exactly as I wanted it. I have not used this site in a few years so I am unable to discuss the changes it may have undergone. Site: http://www.moodle.com

Edmodo was the first LMS that I used with my students. Because I haven’t used the site since 2011, I can not comment on it’s usefulness as the site has undergone several changes. I know most teachers love Edmodo but I am not one of those teachers. When teachers ask me about uploading content for students, I never recommend Edmodo but that’s just me.
